Rules

Use of the equipment in the studios is free and no experience is required. However, we do have a short set of rules that all students and faculty must observe. View the rules

  1. The studios are open to faculty, undergraduate and graduate students from the Cockrell School of Engineering. Currently the space is not open to students from other colleges or to staff.
  2. You are expected to:
    • Clean up after yourself.
    • Be courteous, helpful, and respectful to your colleagues.
    • Failure to follow these rules will cause your privilege to be revoked.
  3. We do not allow the manufacturing of:
    • Weapons of any kind.
    • Production of parts for profit.
  4. You are free to test an idea, prototype it, etc. in the maker space but you need to go elsewhere to manufacture them if you decide to sell your parts.
  5. Each machine has material restrictions and training requirements that you will have to satisfy before using it. If in doubt, please ask.
  6. Intellectual property developed by a student who is not an employee of the UT Austin is owned by the student. The situation is the same if the student happens to be an employee of UT Austin and the intellectual property that is developed is outside the "course and scope" of employment.
